Read more5 Tips to Beat Holiday Stress
We all get stressed. In today’s busy world, it’s part of the territory. But that just means we have to do our part to manage it and create our own peace of mind. With the holiday season around the corner (P.S. have you taken a peek at our holiday gifts yet?), it’s important to be extra mindful of our stress levels.
Here are our best tips to keep stress at bay this holiday season:
Practice mindful breathing
This is a simple practice you can do anywhere—at your desk, sitting in traffic, or before bed. Focusing on your breath can calm your nervous system and slow down your heart rate. It’s called the 4-7-8 breathing technique. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 7 counts, exhale for 8 counts. Repeat.
Get your shut-eye
We all know sleep is good for us. Do you notice you feel like a different person when you get 8 hours of shut-eye vs. 3 hours? Us too. Prioritizing sleep can help reduce stress levels. Be sure to give yourself a break from screen time before bed and engage in relaxing night time routine.
Take a walk
Fresh air! Endorphins! This is one of our favorite ways to boost serotonin and reduce cortisol. Studies show that just 20-30 mins of walking can alleviate stress and give your mind a boost. So, grab a buddy, keep your walking shoes under your desk or in your car and hit the pavement.
Have a tea party
The benefits of herbal tea are endless. And, all it takes is a few minutes to boil some water and steep a cup of tea. The healing properties of many herbal teas are said to reduce stress, anxiety, and even mild depression. Two of our favorites are chamomile and lemon balm.
Try a natural remedy
One of the ThirdLove staff faves is Rescue Remedy. It’s a flower essence made from infusing the flower part of various healing plants. A few drops is all you need to help you feel a little calmer.
Happy early holidays! Stay calm out there.
