Read more5 Tips to Get a Better Night Sleep
ZZZ’s. Rest. Siesta. All words that mean the same thing: sleep.
Are you getting enough of it? Do you feel well rested when you wake up, or a bit sluggish? Do you stay asleep all night, or do you toss and turn?
It’s somehow become a badge of honor to run on empty these days, but studies show a lack of good sleep can lead to burnout and added stress (which no one needs more of).
Amongst our team, we’ve seen it all—and while we’re no sleep doctors, these five, seemingly easy tips and tricks for a better night sleep are Team ThirdLove tested and approved:
1. Get into a routine.
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again—the best way to get a good night’s sleep is to keep things consistent, and that means the time you go to bed and wake up should stay constant throughout the week.
We know it can be ultra-tempting to stay up until 3 AM on a Saturday night and wake up at noon the next day (and sometimes, it’s unavoidable), but as much as you can, try to go to bed at the same time each night and set your alarm for a the same time each morning. The Mayo Clinic suggests anywhere from seven to nine hours of sleep per night for adults, so set those bedtime reminders and alarm clocks and hop into bed!
P.S. Make it part of your bedtime routine to turn off all devices—yes, including your phone, computer, tablet, TV… and anything else you may be hiding—at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Bonus points if you invest in a charging station outside of your bedroom!
2. Pamper yourself!
Bedtimes don’t have to be stressful. In fact, they can actually be incredibly relaxing and peaceful (unless you have young children, in which case, may the odds be ever in your favor).
In addition to establishing a bedtime routine, consider a nightly skincare routine (we love this Glossier nighttime moisturizer and this Origins face mask). We also recommend diffusing essential oils or bubbling a bath to melt away the stress of a long day.
3. Get comfortable—and we mean really comfortable.
There are so many little things you can invest in to make your bedroom—and bed, specifically—a more enjoyable, comfortable place to be. Need a new mattress? We suggest this one from Casper—it’s like sleeping on a cloud. Plus, their pillows are just as dreamy.
On the hunt for a new sheet set? Invest in something soft and luxurious like these Parachute Linen sheets (plus, the lightweight material will keep you cool and cozy all night long). And, a silk eye mask can add a little hint of luxury and block out the light for a dark, deep night sleep.
4. Invest in some cute pajamas!
You didn’t really think we could make it through this list without talking about fashion even a little, did you?
Pajamas are the icing on the top of the sleep cake. A cute pajama set (like this Eberjey one—swoon) can make you feel like a million bucks, which may not scientifically lead to a better night’s sleep, but it sure helps us feel better about it.
5. Take it easy in the mornings.
Nothing is worse than a blaring alarm clock in the morning, jumping out of bed still half-asleep, and rushing into the shower. When you start your morning in a hurry, odds are the rest of your day will follow suit.
Try setting your alarm clock for even ten minutes earlier than you normally would, and program your coffee to go off five minutes before you wake up. Waking up to the smell of coffee brewing (and with a few more extra minutes to check Instagram or emails before you start the mad dash out the door) will help you feel a little more relaxed and centered before your busy day ahead.
