Quick Ways to Brighten Up Your Wardrobe for the End of Summer

The end of summer is upon us (insert crying face emoji here). Instead of sulking, we’re celebrating by wearing our white jeans—we have until Labor Day, after all!—and reveling in the fact that it’s still socially acceptable to wear bright colors before the gloom and doom of fall sets in.

Here are just a few of the ways we’re celebrating the last few weeks of summer and working color into our wardrobes in sly ways:

Try a silk scarf!

Small scarves are trending, and we’re in love with how versatile they are. Whether you style them tied to a bag, around your neck, or as a bow in your ponytail, a square scarf is a simple—and fashion-forward—way to add in a pop of color and celebrate the end of summer.

Shop the look: We’re crushing on this scarf from J.Crew. Bonus points: it’s only $50!

Add a colorful bra to your rotation.

We’d wager to bet you rotate between neutral bras, like a nude and a black. Instead, shake things up a bit: it’s summer, now’s the time to be bold! We can’t stop pinning colors like Deep Orchid and Blue Iris, and while they make beautiful Pinterest boards, they also make beautiful bras.

When in doubt, rock colorful shoes.

If you’re not comfortable walking into work in a bright blue blouse, don’t worry. You don’t have to don brights from head to toe to work color into your wardrobe. Shoes are one of the easiest ways to add a little color without overdoing it—and, the best part is you can still rock your neutrals from head to… your ankles.

Shop the look: a mellow yellow, like these Honey slides from Ulla Johnson, are a super on-trend way to slide into color.

Swipe on some red lipstick—it’s an instant mood boost.

There’s no denying the fact that red is a powerful color. It makes you feel confident and energized. If you’d prefer to spare your wardrobe of color (and your wallet of the investment), consider a swipe of red lipstick. Any of these will do, but we trust MAC most with our red.
