In the past few weeks, I’ve watched several natural disasters and local emergencies rock our country—Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria, and the wildfires close to our home, in Northern California.
With so many tragedies taking place at once, my team and I knew we had to do something to help the countless people who were affected by these events, but particularly the women who lost everything—including all of their clothes and underwear. I can’t imagine not having a home to come back to or having the basics in my life, and I feel we must try to help those women in need, even in a small way, as they start the rebuilding process.
Why Florida
Following the donations we made to Hurricane Harvey victims, we knew we had to get involved when Hurricane Irma hit Florida just weeks later. Hurricane Irma left over 3.4 million people without power in Florida, in addition to widespread floods statewide.
In the past few weeks, we’ve donated over $85,000 worth of bras and underwear to charities in Florida, including the Sulzbacher Center, Clara White Mission, and Womankind.
"Womankind is eternally grateful for the opportunity to share ThirdLove bras in our community. Your generosity made a group of women in the first stages of rebuilding their lives extremely happy. It was a day of tears, hugs, laughter, and thanks." — Cali Roberts, Executive Director at Womankind
"Your donation made a tremendous impact on our community. We thank you for reaching out to us from across the country to bring a literal lift to our residents." — Cali Roberts, Executive Director at Womankind
Since 2013, we’ve donated over $2.5 million worth of bras and underwear to charities around the world, and we’re just getting started.
What’s next? We’re on the hunt for charities in Northern California who were hit hard by the fires in the past few weeks, so that we can support women in our own backyard too. On a personal level, many of my close friends were affected in some way, since there are such strong ties to wine country from San Francisco.
